Simple Beauty Hacks for Busy Motherhood

I don’t have time for 10-step routines anymore.

Not since becoming a mom.

Not since the quiet mornings turned into toddler giggles, breakfast spills, and tiny hands tugging at my shirt.

But I’ve learned—beauty doesn’t have to be complicated to be sacred.

It can be as simple as a spoonful of castor oil.

A pinch of baking soda.

A scoop of Epsom salt in a warm bath.

In the midst of the motherhood and nontoxic living, I’ve found a way to utilize them to simplify my beauty and health routine, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

✨ 1. Castor Oil: The Mama’s Liquid Gold

This one sits front and center on my bathroom shelf. Not because it’s trendy, but because it works.

Benefits:

  • Deeply hydrates skin and heals dry patches (perfect for postpartum mamas)

  • Promotes hair growth for lashes, brows, and scalp

  • Reduces inflammation and soothes hormonal breakouts

  • Supports lymphatic drainage and digestion when used as a castor oil pack on the abdomen / liver area.

I rub it into my belly at night, not just to support my gut—but to tell my body: I see you. Thank you. There are numerous sources that suggest castor oil packs for detoxing. You can even use it as a hair treatment for nourishing split ends.

Mama Tip: Use it on baby’s cradle cap, on dry heels, or even to help stimulate labor naturally under the guidance of a midwife.

My favorite brand of castor oil for my face is Holistic Beauty Castor Oil. Not only is it organic, but it comes in a beautiful glass bottle topped with a rose quartz roller for easy application. The roller helps to massage your tired mama skin and easily depuffs those delicate eye areas in the morning.

✨ 2. Baking Soda: Your Skin’s Secret Weapon

It’s not just for cookies or deodorizing the fridge, laundry or cleaning scrub. Baking soda is a game-changer in my beauty routine too! You can even sprinkle it into your bath for a gentle detox and washes away sweat and oil, neutralizing acids for soft, smooth skin.

Benefits:

  • Gentle exfoliation for soft, radiant skin

  • Natural teeth whitening (just a sprinkle on your toothpaste)

  • Alkalizes your body when used in a detox bath

  • Deodorizes naturally without artificial fragrance

Mama Tip: Mix with a little honey and water for a quick face mask. It brightens tired skin in under five minutes—yes, even the kind that’s been up all night with a nursing babe.

✨ 3. Epsom Salt: A Mother’s Magnesium Fix

When my legs ache from holding babies…

When my back’s tight from bending low to clean spills…When my brain is racing with everything I didn’t finish…

I take a lonnnng bath. Hot water heals, and brings my body down from a high, and I always add Epsom salt. Why? It helps your body in more ways than one…

Benefits:

  • Delivers magnesium transdermally (goodbye muscle aches and cramps)

  • Supports detoxification

  • Relieves stress and calms the nervous system

  • Soothes itchy or inflamed skin

Mama Tip: Add lavender essential oil and a cup of Epsom salt to your kids’ bath too. It helps with sleep and keeps those little immune systems strong.

✨ A Few More Nontoxic Beauty Hacks I Love:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse:

For shiny hair and a balanced scalp. Just mix a tablespoon with a cup of water and pour over your hair after shampooing.

  • Witch Hazel:

The ultimate postpartum best friend. Great for toning the skin, reducing inflammation, and making homemade baby wipes.

  • Coconut Oil + Arrowroot Powder:

My go-to DIY deodorant base. Safe, gentle, and surprisingly effective.

  • Aloe Vera Gel:

Soothes sunburns, nourishes skin, and makes a cooling face mask for inflamed or hormonal skin days.

  • Raw Honey:

As a cleanser or mask, it’s naturally antibacterial and healing. I smear a thin layer on my face while folding laundry. Multitasking, naturally.

✨ The Deeper Beauty of Simplicity

There’s something deeply powerful about choosing less in a world of more.

Less packaging.

Less fragrance.

Less hormonal disruption.

Less overwhelm.

And as mothers, we carry so much already.

These simple remedies have been a return home for me. To my body. To the earth.

To a beauty that isn’t performative, but nourishing.

Clean living isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment.

And the more I align with what’s real, natural, and good…

The more at home I feel in my skin—and in this life I’ve built for my family.

So here’s to castor oil and Epsom salt baths.

To baking soda masks and ACV rinses.

To being the clean, calm, grounded woman your kids see every single day.

Not because you have hours to get ready—but because you’ve learned the sacred art of choosing what truly matters.
